Learn to Swim Level 3 - Stroke Development (Age 6+)

Swimmers expand proficiency of previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice.  They also learn and practice survival floating, and learn to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels.  The scissors and dolphin kicks are introduced.  Rules for headfirst entries are covered, and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside.  New and previously addressed water safety topics are included.  Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water competency in the pool.

Prerequisite:  Swimmer has passed Level 2 or can jump into deep water and swim on both front and back for 20 yards.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program is two-fold: to teach people how to be safe in, on and around water; and to teach people of all ages and varying abilities how to swim. Using a logical progression, the program covers the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development, which, in turn, leads to safer and better swimmers.
