Learn to Swim Level 4 - Stroke Improvement (Age 8+)

Swimmers improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency.  Arm action is added to the previously learned scissors kick and breaststroke kick, to perform the rudimentary sidestroke, and to learn the breaststroke.  Participants also begin to learn the back crawl and butterfly, as well as the basics of performing a simple open turn at a wall.

Prerequisite:  Swimmer has passed Level 3, or or is able to dive and swim the front and back crawl.

American Red Cross

The purpose of the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program is two-fold: to teach people how to be safe in, on and around water; and to teach people of all ages and varying abilities how to swim. Using a logical progression, the program covers the knowledge and skills needed for aquatic skill development, which, in turn, leads to safer and better swimmers.
