Online Driver's Education: Classroom Instruction & Behind the Wheel: Ages 14.5-18 (April)
Youth / Expand Your World & Enrichment -
Youth Winter/Spring 2021
Safeway Driving School is offering driver’s education through distance learning. This course covers 30 hours of classroom training and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel lessons. The State requires that the distance learning be conducted in a face-to-face platform, which requires that students have a video camera and audio capabilities on their devices. Safeway has chosen a secure Zoom platform to conduct the class. Students will be required to be in front of the camera and be interactive for the full three-hour class.
Safeway will be emailing the classroom handouts and 2020 MN Driver’s Manual in pdf format for printing, or you can pick up the materials through Edina Community Ed. Materials pick up will occur the Thursday and Friday before class starts. You will receive an email the week before class with the pick up details. Safeway will be emailing the class link and handouts the Friday before class starts.
The behind-the-wheel training will be scheduled through Safeway after the student has completed the classroom training and passed the permit test. It consists of six hours of one-on-one private instruction with a responsible, professional driving instructor. Lessons are two hour sessions and include pick-up and drop-off from home, work or school. Training is done on actual city streets and highways. For this online course, blue cards will be mailed out when all lessons are completed.
Parents/guardians will be required to complete Safeway’s Account Verification. Safeway will be sending out an email before class begins that gives detailed information about how to login to the student’s Safeway account to verify and complete contact information and to review and acknowledge their Service Agreement.
