This class will cover canine psychology, what drives certain behaviors, and what dog owners can do to bridge the communication gap. Class will include background information about dogs, instruction on training methods and time for Q & A.
note: This is a class for humans only. Dog friends will have to wait patiently at home.
About me and my training style: I started out my career in the dog industry about 6 years ago at a daycare and boarding facility. I worked at as a Pet Care Specialist/Group Play Supervisor for several years before taking the job of Lead Trainer. I worked at the facility as a trainer for about 2.5 years. With the onset of the Covid lockdowns, I decided it was the perfect time to start my own business, so I started River Valley D.O.G.S. in September of 2020. I am in the process of achieving my CCTBS (Certified Canine Training and Behavior Specialist) through the Animal Behavior Institute, and plan on graduating at the end of March. My training style is reward based, with emphasis on positive reinforcement. Dogs perform to a higher standard if they are working towards receiving a reward, as opposed to working to avoid a punishment. With that being said, I do take a balanced approach to dog training, and I will utilize all 4 quadrants of operant conditioning if the situation calls for it. Every dog is different, and there is no 1 size fits all approach to training.
