    Calling all critter and outdoor lovers! In this sweet and fun class, students will learn how to draw, paint, and sculpt adorable woodland creatures. Foxes, Bunnies, Bears, Mice, Owls, Hedgehogs, you name it, we're creating it! There will be one focused project where students will get to design a habitat for their preferred critter using faux moss and sticks. What fun!     This class will be all about clay! Sculpey, Model Magic and Kiln Fired Clay will be used to create a variety of ceramic pieces to bring home including a clay cupcake, colorful monster friend and a bowl inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe Flower paintings.     Come and join the beginning of a new-to-Edina program focusing on the development of percussionists/drummers through the thrilling and enjoyable medium of bucket drums. This introduction to percussion and performance class is great for learning the basics of rhythms, rudimentary drumming, reading music and ensemble performance. This class is perfect for all experience levels, whether your student is picking up sticks for the first time or wanting to continue their learning and performing as a drummer. At the end of the session our ensemble will perform at an all school assembly to showcase what they’ve learned.     Students will explore how to use stoneware clay to create their own unique 3-dimensional artwork. Improv is a skill set that can benefit an individual in many ways - from building confidence, strengthening everyday social interactions, learning greater cooperation & teamwork skills, a positive release for humor and so much more.     In this in-person workshop, you will discover the basic techniques for drawing letters and short words. We will start with a theoretical section that covers styles and letterforms, and end with guided practice time where you will work on a simple postcard or poster design of your choosing.     Thinking, Feeling, Expressing, and Creating! Students will unwind and relax after school days by bringing what's inside of them to the outside on paper. Mindful projects like bracelet making with positive words, prayer and/or wish boxes, kaleidoscope art, and model magic creatures are all in this class. The battle between good and evil has been fought since the beginning of time, but none understand the struggle more than the children of your favorite Disney villains.   • Yarn Weavings with Mme French-Amara: Gr. 3-5

    Create multiple unique and creative yarn weavings! Over this 5-day class, students will be creating their own small hand woven works of art. With the guidance and inspiration of Normandale Elementary' s licensed and experienced art specialist, Mme Leanne French-Amara, students will be weaving with yarn, fabric, and ribbon. Students will be weaving these different textures into a variety of looms. Our looms will be constructed from cardboard, sticks, paper, and wood. Mme French-Amara has been an art specialist for 30 years, 17 of those years at Normandale Elementary School. She has also been an artist and craft creator since she was in elementary school!     Highlands music teacher, Katie Widen, leads this large and inclusive group. We sing varied repertoire, develop singing technique, and build a supportive and cooperative community. There will be an optional opportunity this session to sing the National Anthem at a Twin Cities sporting event. On April 23rd, families can look forward to a concert and hearing their singers perform. We will celebrate our season with a choir party on April 30th.
