    Open Woodshop: M-F Mornings

Join a committed crew of woodcrafters where a myriad of experienced woodworkers, hobbyists, and beginners work side-by-side on personal and community projects. Our woodshop is well-equipped with all the major power equipment and hand tools you are likely to need to complete your projects as well as a finishing room for painting, varnishing or oiling. The Monday through Friday morning session Open Shop has a long tradition of volunteer monitors and mandatory breaks. The price-per-session for M-F morning shop reflects a commitment by woodworkers to volunteer as a monitor 3-4 times each quarter. This is not optional: if you register for M-F Open Shop, expect to monitor. And expect to take a 10am coffee and treat break! Afternoon and evening/weekend Open Shop registrants have paid staff monitors and are not expected to volunteer nor are breaks mandatory. This is reflected in a higher price-per-session so we are able to compensate our staff monitors appropriately. We have moved to a quarterly calendar to allow participants to easily take a quarter off if they are traveling or unable to commit to the previous longer season length. This also allows us to naturally build in 4 skill building weeks throughout the year. **PLEASE NOTE: We encourage you to attend the first day of your open Shop session. This is in order to meet one another and confirm that participants are up to date with all our woodshop expectations, protocols, and monitor roles. • Paperweight Glassblowing Discovery

During your Paperweight Glass Discovery, you will work one-on-one with a professional glass instructor to make a solid glass globe sculpture. Our instructors will explain the safety, equipment, and tools that glassblowers use every day to create their art. Participants will have the glassblowing process demonstrated and explained to them, and then one at a time will be coached through the steps of creating a beautiful, colorful paperweight of their own. This hands-on process will include collecting color onto the surface of molten glass and shaping it with a variety of specialty tools while sitting at the glassblower’s bench. Not comfortable with some of the steps or equipment involved in hot glass making? Fear not, our instructors will adapt to your level of comfort in the hotshop to ensure a wonderful experience. Due to hot glass needing to be cooled at a slow rate over at least 12 hours, completed pieces will be ready for pickup the week following your Glass Discovery. Please note that although you will be glassblowing, this class does not require placing mouths onto the glassblowing pipes since the sculpture is solid and requires no air. No experience required and all materials are provided. ___________________________________________________________________ Please read our Adult Programming Overview page for all info regarding registration, cancellation, and building info. • Professional Learning: South View Middle School Site Visit

***This course is intended for educational professionals and not available for members of the general public.*** South View is proud to share the great work of Edina Public Schools in carrying out its mission of being a dynamic learning community delivering educational excellence and preparing all students to realize their full potential. South View was one of eleven middle schools recognized as a School of Distinction by the Association for Middle Level Education. This distinction is a reflection of South View’s progressive work around developing agency and belonging for all learners. We will continue to be a model for what it looks like to be a responsive, challenging, empowering, equitable and engaging middle school. One of the ways we continue to grow is by hosting site visits. Sponsoring space and time for other sites and programs to learn and share effective practices builds on our teacher efficacy. There is so much value in learning in the context of an actual school day. Some schools come to see the flexible learning spaces, others want to see how daily flex time and advisory works, but all schools learn about instructional practices that put learners at the center so each and every student can reach their full potential and thrive. Registration Note: If you are not attending but registering others from your district, you will need to first create an Eleyo account if you don't already have one. Second, you will select yourself as an "attendee" but that is strictly for email receipt processing. You will include the names and emails of the actual attendees after this step. Attendees will receive a confirmation directly from the event coordinator before the site visit. For further assistance, call 952.848.3976
