  • A Taste of Science: Gr. 9-12

    Have you ever wondered what makes bread rise? Why is red velvet cake red? Now is your chance to find out! In this camp, we will explore the science behind cooking and food ingredients. You will explore the budding field of "molecular gastronomy" and become familiar with some techniques used in this field. For example, we will bake red velvet cupcakes and investigate the secret behind the red color. You will turn yogurt into "ravioli", create rock candy, make homemade ice cream, pickled vegetables, and marshmallows from scratch while learning the science behind these food items and more! For those with food allergies, all recipes are nut-free.
  • Adventures in Cardboard: Classic: Gr. 6-9

    Think Risk or Stratego, but played on your feet and where the playing board is the great outdoors divided into mythical provinces. You can work as a team in a series of competitive games, and later on, strike off on your own in survival games. In the first hour of game day, artists help you create the basic equipment you will need to survive in the realm. Typically this starts with a sword, shield and costume, but may branch off into any fancy. After practicing the rules of Safe Sword Tag, we quickly dive into strategic live-action games like capture the flag. A layer of theatrical role-playing is woven in along the way, affecting how kids interact with each other and how they use any magical relics they find along the way. Please dress for adventure and bring a bag lunch.
  • Archery & Adventure Camp: Gr. 6-12

    This camp is designed for both beginning and intermediate archers. Participants will use our compound bows and practice from ground level and elevated platforms, then put their new skills to the test on a walk-through course. Campers will also learn about and practice using other ancient projectiles. Taught by Three Rivers Park Staff. Supervised by Edina Community Ed staff. Educational program time is 4 hours per day and the rest of the time includes lunch, free play and the opportunity to enjoy park facilities. Dress for the weather! No open toe shoes or flip flops! Please bring a lunch, snacks and a water bottle everyday. Note: Safety rules are strictly enforced and Three Rivers Park staff reserves the right to immediately dismiss a camper for unsafe behavior.

  • Competitive Diving: Ages 9+

    Divers with some competitive diving experience welcome. We will do dry-land conditioning 1:30-2:00 pm, the rest of the time will be in the pool. Prerequisites: 11 yrs and under should be able to do five dives, 13 yrs and under should be able to do seven dives, and 14 yrs and older should be able to do eight dives.

    Learn basic diving skills, diving safety, and proper diving technique. You’ll increase your flexibility and have lots of fun too! Diver must be comfortable in deep water.
  • Doggie Yoga: Ages 12+

    Come and enjoy an outdoor yoga class with your pup! We will gently flow through yoga poses, being mindful of our pups underfoot. This class will be fun and light-hearted, beginning with some breathing and time to snuggle your dog and ending with a cozy savasana. No yoga experience necessary. Dogs will be encouraged to stretch along with us! Yoga class will be 45 minutes. After class there will be time to meet other dogs as well as a special giveaway for all dog participants. What to bring: a yoga mat or towel (beach towel works!), water bottle, your dog on a leash (no retractable leashes, please), doggie bags, and a good sense of humor! Dog handler must be 18 or older. Students 12 and older welcome to attend with an adult. Things to know prior to class: Maximum of one dog per adult, please (others are welcome to attend without a dog if they want to soak up some puppy kisses!) Class will be held outside in an open area. Dogs must be leashed during class. No retractable leashes, please. Doggie water dishes will be available. Dogs must be spayed/neutered and current on their rabies vaccination. Participants are encouraged to take breaks with their dogs as needed. You know your dog best! Please bring bags to pick up after your pet as needed. Please take your dog on a short walk prior to class. Please don't bring treats to the class. This can create some jealous doggies around you! Please bring doggies that are friendly with other dogs and people. If your dog is stressed out or causing too much of a disruption in the situation, we may kindly ask you to separate your dog from the group. * In case of inclement weather, this class will be rescheduled to Wednesday, August 12, at 7pm. We will notify you by email if we need to reschedule.

    Summer Dance is designed to prepare students for the movement requirements in their upcoming performances for the school year. Focus will be placed on learning the style, genre, and choreography for the upcoming musicals in the 2020-21 season. Students are taught the basic movement vocabulary and techniques of ballet, tap, and jazz.
  • Edina Boys' Basketball Skills Camp: Gr. 8-9

    This camp is a unique instructional camp for basketball players who are entering grades 8-9. A low coach-to-player ratio provides advanced and beginner players a place to practice the step-by-step and repetitive techniques that will build individual basketball skills. The camp is directed and coached by Joe Burger, the Edina Boys' Head Basketball Coach, EHS assistant coaches, Brian Jungwirth and Mike Landers, as well as numerous past and present Hornet varsity basketball players. Parents are welcome to come and watch. In addition to skills camps for grades 4-9, see information about our Summer League session that takes place immediately after the skills camp session.   • Edina Boys' Basketball Summer League: Gr. 8-9

    Directed by Joe Burger, Edina Boys' Basketball Head Coach, the main purpose of the league is to give youth players the opportunity to play basketball during the summer. Different than the Edina Basketball Skills Camp, Summer League provides a setting which is competitive and structured– only full court, 5-on-5 games will be played during the sessions. Teams are put together by the coaching staff and a tournament is put together the final three days as players compete for prizes. *We strongly encourage players to attend the Edina Boys Basketball Skill Camp prior to their league session. Players may not leave the gym area without permission from the director or a referee. Players do not need to bring a basketball. Teams of around 10-12 players will be created. Directors will try, but cannot guarantee players will be placed with preferred teammates. Players will be expected to play hard, play unselfishly, and support their teammates. Each day a schedule will be created and posted with team names etc – some teams get together and wear the same color t-shirt or pinneys will be provided Games will be 20-25 minutes running time. Teams could play 3-4 25-min games per day. Substitutions will occur every 5 minutes of playing time. If there are 10 or more players on a team no player will be allowed to play two 5-minute segments in a row. If less than 10 players are available then no player will be allowed to play three – 5-minute segments in a row. There are neither practices nor are there any coaches. The referees of each game will assist the players and monitor the game play and player substitutions. No free throws will be shot. 1 point will be given on all non-shooting fouls – while retaining possession of the ball. 2 points or 3 points will be given on shooting fouls – while giving up possession of the ball. The officials are not licensed but will do everything within their power to create safe and fair play. No Zone defense is allowed. Teams with a 20-point lead will not be allowed to full-court press.

    Minecraft is wonderful sandbox-like gaming environment where players can explore, create, and interact. Our summer camp program utilizes the modified version MinecraftEDU, which can help players develop a more collaborative and critical thinking approach. This particular camp is for campers who are experienced in Minecraft.

    Join other Edina teens to learn about new genre public art and street art practices, explore topics around art, make connections between art and our world, express yourself and your identity, and to work collaboratively on a street art project in your community! Program Highlights: - Learn about contemporary art styles such as conceptual art, land art, graffiti, activist art, new genre public art, street craft, participatory art, site specific art and craftivism - Discuss art created to influence social awareness and change - Gain critical thinking skills - Learn how to turn ideas into works of art - Express yourself and your identity creatively regardless of your race, ethnicity and gender in a welcoming environment - Connect with other teens, educators and artists - Assist with the program and strengthen your leadership, communication and teamwork skills - Create art that engages the public and facilitates discussion and connection within your community This program requires no skill in fine arts or applied arts, and no previous knowledge in visual arts or culture!

Throughout the week, athletes will work on each core skill (passing, serving, hitting, blocking, and setting) through drills, activities, and games. Drills and activities are broken down into their basic components, paying great attention to detail and technique. We make sure to personalize and modify drills to fit ability so all players are challenged. All participants will get coach attention, game and team experience, high school technique instruction, and a camp t-shirt (adult sizes). Things to Bring to Camp: Wear proper court attire which is short/long sleeve shirts (no tank tops), spandex shorts, and knee pads Water bottle Participants may also want to bring a small towel or moisture wick since there will be some conditioning and athletes will be working hard Arrive 10-15 minutes early to be dressed and ready to participate right at the start of camp Excitement and an open mind to learn new things and get to know new people!

    A unique opportunity for young authors to explore the magic of writing. Registrants will explore multiple genres, write for different audiences and purposes, all while gaining confidence and skills in their writing. Using the writing process, students will develop unique characters, conflicts, and find their voice. We will also explore digital opportunities for young authors, including websites for writing prompts, skill development, blogging, and self-publishing.
