    Our summer camp program utilizes Minecraft: Education Edition, an educational version of Minecraft specifically designed for classroom use. While still getting a collaborative experience with others, camp this week is done in the comfort of the camper’s home. After each day’s three-hour online session, campers can then continue their experience independently at home and have access to Minecraft: Education Edition’s vast collection of resources. This particular camp will focus on SURVIVAL mode. Campers will get to explore the skills needed to start with nothing, gradually collect and create materials to help them survive. Requirements: 1.Campers must be an Edina Public Schools student due to the needed account to log into the MinecraftEDU software from home. 2.Campers must have access to Windows PC, Mac, or iPad. 3.Initial setup will require an adult to help install needed software. 4.Due to the nature of distance learning, please anticipate the possibility of the need to problem solve issues with technology.     Hurricanes, tornados and other destructive weather events highlight the role of engineers in improving forecasts and reducing the toll from natural disasters. Join our disaster engineering camp to brainstorm ideas and then use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test and refine projects to avoid or minimize the impact of natural disasters like guiding search or rescue robots, measuring wind speeds and designing sturdier buildings.
  • In Person: Hogwarts Magical Robotic Builders: Gr. 1-5

    Journey to the magical world of Harry Potter. Build and program magical theme projects. Young imaginations soar! Students will be taught foundational building and introduced to programming concepts with learning about sensors, motors, and special technics components using the Lego Wedo Systems. Possible projects include: Magic Chest,Dragon, Hippogriff, Magic Hat, Magic Carpet, and Magical Staircase. Please bring a drink & a snack.
  • In Person: Extreme EV3: RoboWars: Gr. 6-8

    New Class with new builds and challenges! Take your engineering skills to a higher level. Students will be using the EV3 Mindstorm Robotics Systems, and special LEGO® Technic™ engineering components to build extreme, competitive robots. Students will be working in small teams that will control their robots with EV3 programs. Students will then have the chance to modify the programs and models. Students will be challenged to morph their projects into better, stronger and faster robots to compete in a tournament on the last day. Please bring a drink and snack daily.

  • In Person: Crazy Concoctions & Insane Inventions: Gr. K-3

    Messy? Slimy? Sticky? If all this sounds super fun, this is a must take camp for you! Join us in this messy and super exciting camp and have a blast exploring chemical reactions in a fun, slimy way, creating all kinds of ooey gooey, sticky, bouncy, slimy mixtures. Kids will also be challenged to solve fun engineering problems and so much more. In this class all the mess stays behind, as fun memories and learning go home!
  • In Person: Jr. Zoo Camp: Gr. K-3

    Traverse tricky terrain, shake claws with lobsters and design ecosystems in this camp. Discover the diversity of wildlife adaptations, the difference in habitats and what is necessary for each biome's survival. Zoo camp is filled with engaging, hands-on building and experiences and the vital roles animals play in them.
  • In Person: 3D Printing Gizmos and Gadgets: Gr. 4-8

    Students will be learning the ropes of 3D modeling and printing. They will use 3D pens to understand printing in plastic and learn to use CAD software (computer aided design). Students will also use the Engineering Design Process to design tools and useful gizmos and gadgets like a cable organizer, phone stand, face mask accessories and more.
  • Online: Computer Coding Competition: Gr. 3-9

    Build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders! Players will be broken into pools based on age for competitive and fair play. Whether this is your first Code Championship event, or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. This event will be hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required. Please come knowing how to navigate the internet (basic typing and mouse control). The link to the Google Meet event will be emailed two days before the tournament. Kids are welcome to register for all the summer competitions. Each tournament will be a little different.

    Designed by the experts at MIT, this unique system teaches children about simple machines, engineering, programming, and so much more.The LEGO® Education WeDo Robotics Builder class allows students to explore different concepts in robotics. Possible models may include Scuba Driver, Clown Fish, Bathyscope, Sea Gulls, Submarine and more. Your students will build LEGO® models featuring working motors, tilt sensors, motion detectors, and a LEGO® USB Robotics Hub

  • In Person: Engineer's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse: Gr. 3-8

    Have you ever wondered what you would do to save yourself from the zombie apocalypse? Students will find themselves the lone survivors of a zombie apocalypse and learn that the undead are coming to find them. The challenge is to stay alive until scientists find a cure. Be careful! One bite and you will become one of them. Students will work in teams and use the Engineering Design Process to create projects to help them make the best choices for their own and their classmates’ survival.
  • In Person: Intro to Coding with Super Heroes: Gr. 1-3

    Students can create their own platform video games in this cool class! Choose your storyline with favorite superheroes as your stars. Add challenges and levels of difficulty, then share them by email or post them on the web to challenge family and friends. Now young students can practice math, logic, and programming and put their video game talents to work! The game will be in an animated Flash format, viewable in most internet browsers. Bring a jump drive to the last day of class, or files can be emailed to parents.
  • In Person: Extreme Robotics: EV3 Battlebots: Gr. 3-6

    Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system and the Mindstorms EV3 (the most sophisticated microcomputer brick ever made by LEGO), this camp will energize and excite students. Students will construct fun LEGO models, experiment with programs, and compete in robotic challenges. Robot building and block programming will be part of each day’s activities. Final challenges will be centered around hitting targets and a sumo battle.
