Youth Woodshop: Fantastical Architecture! Scale Model Marvels from Idea to Creation: Gr. 6-12

Youth / Art, Theater, Music & Creativity -
Youth Summer 2025

Bring your imagination to life by transforming a two-dimensional drawing into a three-dimensional architectural model!

In this hands-on course, you'll learn the fundamentals of model-making using an architectural scale, precise hand tools, and materials like balsa wood and pine. Through careful cutting, joining, and assembly techniques, you’ll gain valuable skills in spatial thinking, scale representation, and craftsmanship. This class will provide the foundation to build models that bring your ideas into the real world.

This class is taught by local creator Alo Osberg as a part of our Summer Artist in Residence Program.

Summer Artist in Residence Program

Immerse yourself in creativity this summer! Our Artist in Residence Program is a vibrant initiative designed to connect community members with local makers, artists, and performers, fostering meaningful interactions that celebrate the arts and engage with the creative process up close.

This program also offers kids a unique opportunity to delve deeply into the arts, exploring their creativity through hands-on experiences guided by professional artists. From woodworking to music and theater, kids will discover new passions and hone their talents in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Join us for a summer of connection, creativity, and discovery as we build bridges between artists and the community while nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers!

A timber framer, boat builder, and avid forager— Alo Osberg is most in their element when outside, learning processes for transforming raw elements into functional art. They started timber framing as an apprentice in Cherry Valley, NY in 2020 but started their carpentry work much earlier as a public artist and later a crew leader for students, volunteers, and artists at Summit Academy, Steger Wilderness Center, Historicorps, and Visitor Center Artist Camp. They are always looking for ways to connect people to place and love teaching aspiring craftfolk, adults and youth, about local organic material with curiosity, patience and play. When they’re not carving timbers, they enjoy mushroom forays, gardening, mask-making, and learning languages.
