First time carvers will learn wood carving techniques to transform a Basswood block into a Chickadee. Participants are encouraged to bring their own knife and safety glove, should they have them. Carving knives and safety gloves will be available for each student to use, at no charge, during class. Knives and woods will be discussed before carving begins. Several knife grips will be practiced to safely and effectively shape the wood. Students will learn techniques for applying paint and a wax finish. Materials (wood blanks, paint, brushes, and wax) will be provided. Additional blanks will be available for cash/Venmo purchase in class. We may include some YouTube videos for folks to watch ahead of time. Children 12 and up accompanied by a paying adult may attend this class for a reduced fee.
