What is Marquetry? Marquetry is the craft of creating intricate designs and images by inlaying thin pieces of wood veneer. Often called “painting with wood,” it transforms natural grain and color into richly detailed compositions.
This class will introduce marquetry techniques and help participants develop the skill needed to create marquetry projects.
We will:
1) Cut veneers using a bandsaw
2) Use the rotary drum sander to get the marquetry piece
4) Cut the pieces by hand using a scrollsaw
5) Sand shade the veneers
6) Glue the marquetry pieces onto a substrate,
7) Sand the final piece, and 9) Apply topcoat finish.
