    Middle School Orchestra Camp: Grades 6-9

    This camp is for all orchestra students going into grades 6-9 and will be taught by Edina middle and high school orchestra teachers. Dust off your instrument and join your fellow Edina Orchestra members for a fun summer week of playing music, socializing and meeting special guest artists! Scholarships available.
  • Beyond ECFE: Parenting Middle School Students

    Come to class and learn new parenting skills as your child grows from Elementary through High School years. Beyond ECFE Classes are taught by Licensed Parent Educators, meeting once per month. Group discussion allows parents to share their challenges, experience and wisdom. Topics are determined based on the interests of the class. Classes offered are: Parenting Elementary Students, Parenting Middle School Students, and Parenting High School Students. Parenting Middle School Students (First Tuesday of the month): Topics may include friendships and social dynamics, personality and independence, behavior and discipline, back talk and rude behavior, building resilience, developing responsibility, self-confidence, body image, emotion coaching, balancing homework and activities, puberty, adolescent brain development, and technology and social media. Topics are flexible and will reflect the interests of the group. For the months of November and April, class will be held on the 2nd Tuesday November 12th and April 8th).

    Hornet Central offers an early arrival option for middle school families. The program is open at both Valley View and South View Middle Schools from 8:00am - 9:00am. Program Details Hornet Central offers an inclusive, supervised, and interactive environment for students to begin their day. Students have choices for how to spend their time during Hornet Central: Students can socialize, work on homework, play games, and prepare for their school day. Staff will be available to help with homework. Students who would like a more active start to their day can play games in the gym or outside (weather dependent).   • Career Exploration Gr: 7-9

    Embark on a journey of self-discovery and endless possibilities at our Career Exploration Camp for middle school students! This immersive experience is designed to ignite curiosity and unveil the exciting world of diverse professions. Through hands-on activities, engaging workshops, inspiring guest speakers and several field trips, students will gain valuable insights into various career paths.

    HORNET TRACK & FIELD CAMP is designed to teach kids track & field events and provide them the opportunity to participate in a real track meet. Campers will be separated into similar age groups and will learn how to effectively warm up/cool down, stretch, and participate in plyometrics while becoming faster and stronger in track & field events. Camp will conclude with an official track meet allowing campers to fully experience a typical “gameday” at a middle school and high school meet. Current and former Edina High School Boys and Girls athletes will serve as coaches. Registration Fee includes all instruction, prizes and an official camp t-shirt. Classes offered are: Parenting Elementary Students, Parenting Middle School Students, and Parenting High School Students. Parenting Elementary Students (First Thursday of the month): Topics may include working in partnership with teachers, identity, sleep, friendships, discipline, emotion coaching, sibling relationships, over-scheduling, home-school communication, beginning puberty, teaching personal and media safety, moral development, chores and allowance and other concerns common to this age and stage. Topics are flexible and will reflect the interests of the group. For the months of January and April, class will be the second Thursday (January 9th and April 10th).

    Green Crew Adventure: Gr. 6-8

    Embark on a thrilling adventure at our one-week summer camp where young environmental enthusiasts connect with nature! Our 100% outdoor program blends exciting science experiments with hands-on conservation projects, cultivating a deep appreciation for the environment. Learn Leave No Trace principles, forge friendships, and make a lasting impact on the natural world through fun and rewarding experiences. An optional Friday experience at the Green Crew's home base at the MN Valley Chapter of the Isaak Walton League in Bloomington is available at no additional cost to participants who register for this class. The Friday experience will run from 9am-4pm in Bloomington and bussing will be available to/from Valley View Middle School that day.
  • Learn To Fish At Lake Normandale: Gr. 5-12

    This course will cover everything a novice fisher (person) needs to know in order pursue a life of fishing on their own. We will cover safety, regulations, etiquette, tackle, poles, reels, knots, rigs, bait, limits, casting, technique, fish types/tendencies, and how to target different species. This class will have 3 sessions of off site fishing at Lake Normandale (Catch and Release) and 1 classroom session at Valley View Middle School. No previous knowledge or equipment is necessary. All equipment we will be using is 13 fishing brand, and will be provided by the instructor. Equipment must be returned after use each day. All participants will be asked to purchase a fishing license before the start of class. *Please note that all participants have the option to bring a snack and/or water bottle for each class. We also highly recommend your child be sent each day with sunscreen as we will be outside for the entire class time. *As a precautionary warning, all participants will be handling and tying hooks, and will also be stationed near a body of water for the majority of this class.
