    Play is essential to our development. It helps us learn and implement important skills that largely impact our perception and experiences in life. In this unified class, we will explore a variety of games, tasks, and activities that will help students strengthen their decision making, problem-solving, communication and other skills through play. Edina Community Ed “Unified” camps blend students with special needs and students who are more typically developing to explore art, theater, science, fitness and more. Our goal is to create a community of individuals, both with and without disabilities, devoted to awareness, advocacy, leadership and empathy through authentic relationship-building experiences. This opportunity is available to students enrolled at Concord Elementary School.

  • Driver's Education: Classroom Instruction & Behind the Wheel: Gr. 9-12 (April)

    This course covers 30 hours of classroom training, and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel lessons. Miss a class? No problem. Each lesson is independent and can be taken in any order. If a lesson is missed, a student can make it up when it is convenient for them and finish at their own pace. The behind-the-wheel training will be scheduled with Safeway after the student has completed the classroom training and passed the permit test. It consists of six hours of one-on-one private instruction with a responsible, professional driving instructor. Lessons are two-hour sessions and include pick-up and drop-off from home, work or school. Training is done on actual city streets and highways. All of Safeway’s instructors are licensed by the MN Depart of Public Safety, having met the State’s background checks and testing requirements.     A must for all babysitters! Topics include infant care, child development, good babysitter business practices, emergency and first aid care. In order to receive a certificate, attendance is required for the entire class.

  • Bicycle Repair and Maintenance Intermediate Class: Ages 14-18

    Basic bike set up, identification, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, how to safety check your bike, preparing a bike for selling, as well as many other helpful tips & tricks. If you take another class you can start where you left off and move to the next level of learning. We highly encourage you to bring your bike to class. If this isn't possible, that's okay. We will have a couple bikes available to work on.
  • Non-School Day: Spring Chess Tournament: Gr. K-12

    Edina elementary and secondary chess players are invited to participate in the "Edina District Season End Chess Tournament". Whether you participated in a chess club or not in the Fall, Winter or Spring, you are invited to compete in this short, fun tournament. Time controls will be used when necessary to keep the tournament within time constraints. The format and recognitions will be based on the number of registered participants in each grade level and school. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins will be accepted. Tournament etiquette and procedures will be explained at the event for players new to tournament play. Players are not eliminated. Everyone plays in each round unless there is a bye because of an odd number of participants. Typically there are 4-5 rounds.
  • Online: Private ACT Tutoring for the June 10, 2023 Exam: Gr. 10-12

    Private ACT Tutoring provides 1-on-1 review and instruction tailored to an individual student's needs. Instructors expert in their respective fields handle the different subject areas of the ACT. Subjects for the ACT are: English, Math, Reading, Science or Writing. Tutoring sessions generally start 4-6 weeks prior to the exam date. You have four options for registration: 1 Subject (4 one-hour tutoring sessions in 1 subject) 2 Subjects (8 sessions) 3 Subjects (12 sessions) 4 Subjects (16 sessions) Deciding on the number of ACT Private Tutoring sessions is based upon many factors. We recommend to most of our families to sign up for 4 subjects/16 sessions (4 sessions in each subject) to maximize potential to achieve a student's goal. If your student has taken the Comprehensive Prep Course with us, or is very strong in a specific subject (high 30’s), then all subject areas may not need to be addressed. After your registration is completed with Edina Community Ed, you will receive a confirmation email. Inside you'll be asked to fill out a form with more information. After this is completed, you will be contacted via email to set up your child's tutoring sessions.

    Major focus will be on identification of bicycle parts, trailside repair, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, chain maintenance, how to repair/replace a tube (flat tire), how to safety check your bike. We will also learn basic wheel truing, replacing a chain, how to replace brake and shifting cables. We highly encourage you to bring your bike to class. If this isn't possible, that's okay. We will have a couple bikes available to work on.
  • Online: Comprehensive ACT Prep Course for the June 10, 2023 Exam: Gr. 10-12

    ACT scores play a vital role in college admissions and scholarship opportunities. The Comprehensive ACT Prep Course reviews all subjects of the ACT: English, Math, Reading & Science. We utilize previously administered ACT tests, and focus on content and testing strategies. Zoom link will be emailed.   • Focused Instruction for Developing Readers and/or Students with Markers of Dyslexia: Grades K-3

    Foundational reading skills are taught explicitly, systematically, and sequentially using the Orton-Gillingham approach in small groups of 1-2 students. Instruction is customized to your child’s reading needs using multisensory and research-based resources. Tuition assistance is available for those who qualify. Students may register for either the morning or the afternoon section; students may register for one or both four-week sessions (one begins June 5, one begins July 10). Registration Deadline: May 19.

    Improv and Theater Acting: Grades 6+

    Come ready to connect and laugh as campers test and flex their funny bones in this BRAND NEW improve and comedy theater camp! Campers will explore the art of storytelling and acting through theater games and activities designed to get them tapped into their creative imaginations while also developing stage presence, self-confidence, and respect for fellow performers and their creativity. No theater experience necessary for this fun, relaxed intro to the art of improv!

    Money Explorers: Gr. 6-8

    In this camp, students will partake in a series of games and activities where they can earn simulated money. Students will have different roles within the camp and be presented with different opportunities to spend, share and save their money. This will culminate in students being able to use their earned money to purchase items in a simulated store on the final day of camp.
